Markael Butler is an Associate Attorney based in the firm’s Detroit office, focusing his practice on No-Fault litigation and insurance defense. He brings a robust background in complex civil litigation to the team. Mr. Butler gained significant practical experience as a law clerk with Thomas M. Paris, Attorney & Counselor at Law in Chicago. In this role, he conducted extensive legal research, analyzed complex issues—such as Daubert motions—and assisted in case evaluations, pre-trial negotiations, trial preparation, and arbitration proceedings.

Mr. Butler earned his Juris Doctor from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. During his tenure, he was a key contributor to the Journal of Regulatory Compliance, serving as Associate Editor (2022–2023) and subsequently as Senior Editor for the 2023–2024 academic year.

As a Student Clinician at Loyola’s Community Law Clinic, Mr. Butler represented veterans and their families under a 711 student practice license. His work focused on assisting families with guardianships for disabled adults and providing counsel on the legal responsibilities of appointed guardians.

Prior to law school, he graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in International Development. While at MSU, he was deeply involved in the athletic program, serving as a Student Manager for the football team and eventually becoming Head Student Manager for the 2020 season. He was honored with an MSU Varsity Letter in Fall 2019.

Mr. Butler remains active in the legal community as a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Michigan State Bar Association. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends. An aviation enthusiast, he frequently spends his free time on his flight simulator as he works toward earning his private pilot license.
