Richard J. Joppich, Principal and Marketing Director of the Kitch firm, has been selected by the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (now MDTC), to receive the 2020 President’s Special Recognition Award for tireless and exceptional leadership and extraordinary contributions to the mission and goals of MDTC .

When told of the award at a recent MDTC Board meeting Mr. Joppich reflected,

“I am truly honored and humbled. We serve to help others in the profession be the best they can in serving their clients, without expectation of receiving recognition for our efforts. While greatly appreciated, this award is a reflection of the many great people I have had the fortune to work with in MDTC over the years. I thank them all”

Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) was established in 1979 to enhance and promote the Defense Bar. It is the State’s premier association of civil litigators, existing to facilitate greater exchange of views and advance the interests of civil defense attorneys. Through Mr. Joppich’s tenure working with MDTC, he has served two terms on the Board of Directors, chaired the Membership committee for eight years, served as chair of the Professional Liability Section, and presently co-chairs the Law Practice Management Section and the Government Relations Committee. He has now twice co-chaired the MDTC Annual Educational Conference, with the second approaching in 2021.

As a member of the Kitch Law firm, Mr. Joppich has over thirty years of experience as a defense litigator in PL and GL personal injury cases also assisting insurers and hospital systems with in-house personal injury claims involving complex Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance lien recovery issues. Possessing unique knowledge of Medicare issues, he also provides services in compliance, reimbursement, and recover matters. He is a Certified General Civil Mediator providing pro bono assistance to the Wayne County Dispute Resolution Center. He has been a frequent guest lecturer, has published on many topics and also serves extensively on the board and committees for the Michigan Society of Risk Management since 2004 (mshrm.org)
