Seminar Title: “Consequences of Recreational Marijuana: Important Considerations for Property Owners & Managers”

Synopsis of seminar: After the passage of Proposal 1, which legalized the recreational use of marijuana in Michigan, many property owners and managers have an increasing number of questions about how the law will work in practice and the issues that recreational marijuana will raise. This seminar will explore the intricacies of Proposal 1, discuss the existing medical marijuana laws, provide an overview of some of the marijuana activities you may have or will encounter on your properties, and instruct how to create and enforce permissible rules for commercial and residential properties.

Kally Goodwin-Ratzloff is a principal in the firm’s Detroit office. She focuses her practice on healthcare regulatory issues in long term care and home health, and on issues facing senior housing providers. Her experience includes counseling clients in compliance matters; defending clients undergoing federal and state investigations involving Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and Stark Law allegations; investigating and responding to HIPAA data breaches and security incidents; and advising clients on fair housing laws.

Jesse DePauw is an associate in the firm’s Detroit office. He is a member of the firm’s appellate practice group and concentrates his practice on state and federal appeals, as well as complex litigation support. Jesse’s past experience includes helping to draft proposed ordinances for local municipalities to comply with changes in the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act and the adoption of the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act.
