On December 31, 2020, President Trump extended Proclamations 10014 and 10052 (travel bans), which suspend the entry of Immigrants and Non-immigrants who present a risk to the US Labor Market during Covid-19, until March 31, 2021. The Proclamation requires that the proclamations be reviewed for modifications every 30 days by the Secretary of Homeland Security, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Labor. President Trump’s reasoning for the extension of the proclamations under the guise of protecting the economic recovery in the US and US worker jobs, even with unemployment on the decline.

As noted above, the proclamation end date extends into the President-Elect Biden’s presidency. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic getting worse in the US, President- Elect Biden may not revoke this proclamation immediately after his swearing in. For now, we expect at least for the next several months, that this proclamation remains in effect. It is important to note that even if President- Elect Biden chooses not to extend the presidential proclamation, the consular posts will most likely continue to work on a limited schedule due to Covid-19 across the globe. Therefore, the inevitable backlog and wave of appointments for visa processing abroad is unlikely to get back to “normal” for some time.
