William Vertes is a principal of the firm with extensive, broad-based experience in medical malpractice litigation, birth trauma defense, and healthcare law.  He also leads the firm’s medical marijuana practice.

Since joining the firm in 1983, Mr. Vertes has defended hospitals and physicians in multiple high profile and substantial damage trials.  Over his career, he has also represented physicians in employment disputes, handled corporate compliance matters, represented hospitals facing Medicaid Audits, and served as an arbitrator on several Alternative Dispute Resolution panels.  His current practice includes working with various healthcare organizations, physician groups, state and local authorities, and diverse business practices to comply with and develop policies regarding the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act. 

In addition to his distinguished legal practice, Mr. Vertes frequently lectures to physicians, hospital executive and business groups across the state of Michigan on various medical malpractice and healthcare topics.  He is licensed to practice law in Michigan, as well as the United States District Court Eastern District of Michigan.

Mr. Vertes is AV peer review rated by LexisNexis/Martindale Hubbell.  The AV peer review rating is the highest rating allowed.  It attests to a lawyer’s legal ability and professional ethics, and reflects the confidential opinions of the Bar and Judiciary.

Mr. Vertes received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School.  He earned a B.A. with honors in Political Science from Michigan State University.
