John Hessburg leads the firm’s long term care practice. He began his career with the Kitch firm as a law clerk in 1984. His experience extends to national coordination of medical malpractice liability cases and medical malpractice defense litigation. Since establishing the firm’s long term care practice, he has built a multidisciplinary practice that focuses on the myriad of challenges his clients face on a daily basis, which include professional general healthcare, federal and state administrative law and defense of qui tam and false claim actions as well as professional negligence claims.
Mr. Hessburg is licensed to practice law in Michigan, the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Courts of Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan and Northern Illinois, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also active in several professional and long term care organizations and frequently lectures on legal and regulatory issues faced by long term care providers.
Mr. Hessburg was named a Michigan Super Lawyer in 2007-2009. Only five percent of the attorneys in the state are named Super Lawyers.
Mr. Hessburg received his J.D. from Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America, where he was an editor of the Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy. He also received a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Economics from St. John University, where he was a four-year All American swimmer and an NCAA Merit Scholarship recipient.
