Karen B. Berkery

Karen Berkery leads the firm's labor and employment law practices.  A member of the firm since 1989, Ms. Berkery focuses her practice on the defense of management in disputes concerning employers, as well as physician peer review litigation.  She also represents businesses in civil rights, housing and public accommodation claims before the MDCR and HUD.  She is committed to helping clients minimize costs by solving disputes outside the courtroom, and is certified as a general civil mediator. 

Ms. Berkery is licensed to practice law in Michigan and New York, as well as the U.S. District Courts of Eastern and Western Michigan and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.  She has served as a Hearing Referee and Contract Case Counsel for the Michigan Civil Rights Commission.  In addition, she frequently lectures on employment law issues across the state of Michigan and has published several related articles.

Ms. Berkery is AV Peer Review Rated by LexisNexis/Martindale-Hubbell. The AV Peer Review rating is the highest rating allowed. It attests to a lawyer’s legal ability and professional ethics, and reflects the confidential opinions of the Bar and the Judiciary.

Ms. Berkery received her J.D., cum laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  She also earned a B.A. with honors and distinction from Rutgers University's Douglass College.
